SCRF CONTRIBUTES $75,000 TO THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER
On Thursday, November 14th, SCRF (Support Cancer Research Foundation) donated $75,000, to two organizations that rally in the fight against cancer. The donations come as a result of fundraising from an annual golf tournament, “Tee-Up against Cancer” that has been put together by the Foundation’s organizing committee for the last two years. In 2012, SCRF contributed $100,000 to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (PMCF) and this year they were able to contribute another $60,000. Paige Cunningham, Special Events Coordinator from the PMCF, was present to accept the cheque from one of SCRF’s founders, Manny Clementino. Cunningham stressed the importance of the donation which will go towards general cancer research and personalized medicine for cancer that provides the right treatment, for the right person, at the right time. “It is important to have the involvement of the private sector and organizations that donate money to help in the investigation of a disease that afflicts millions of people” Cunningham said.
The remaining $15,000 was allocated to Camp Trillium, an organization for children battling cancer that provides support to parents, siblings and affected child. Marci Shea–Perry, Executive Director of Camp Trillium, was thrilled and very grateful to the heads of the initiative and said that the money will be used to send more children and their families to Camp Trillium. “We recently had a parent say that drugs healed their child, but also that Camp Trillium “cured” her family”. Content with their accomplishment, Manuel “Manny” Clementino highlighted the success of the tournament and the great cause behind the event. When asked if they are preparing for a third year, Manny Clementino indicated that they are still in the discussion stage, but the moment this is a will, he expects to have even greater success.
